Autonomous Trucking in Texas: New Facility Launch

PALO ALTO, Calif. – August 31, 2021 – Gatik today announced the expansion of its autonomous trucking operations in Texas The company also opened a new autonomous trucking facility in Fort Worth.

The new facility serves as a hub for Gatik’s operations in Texas. It enables new and existing customers to reduce supply chain costs, improve operational efficiency, and shorten Middle Mile delivery times.

Gatik also announced it has raised $85 million in Series B funding. Koch Disruptive Technologies (KDT) led the round. The company will use the funding to scale its fleet of Class 3-6 Autonomous Box Trucks across new markets in North America.

Scaling Autonomous Trucking in Texas

Gatik is establishing a long-term presence in Texas. Gatik continues to strengthen its position in autonomous trucking in Texas through strategic investment and infrastructure expansion. The company anticipates creating over 500 new jobs by 2025. These roles will include operational, technical, and business positions.

Gatik’s medium-duty trucks operate more than twenty hours a day, seven days a week in Texas’ high-density market. This market is ideally suited for multi-tenant goods movement.

As a result, Gatik increases vehicle utilization. It also maximizes profit margins and supply chain efficiency for multiple customers.

To support its expansion, Gatik has partnered with the AllianceTexas Mobility Innovation Zone (MIZ).

Expanding Autonomous Box Truck Operations

Gatik’s expansion into Texas marks its fourth North American market. The company previously deployed its Autonomous Box Trucks in Arkansas and Louisiana with Walmart, and in Ontario, Canada with Loblaw Companies Limited.

Customer demand continues to intensify due to the rapid rise of e-commerce. In response, Gatik deployed 20-foot and 26-foot multi-temperature Autonomous Box Trucks. These vehicles facilitate real-time delivery of goods safely and sustainably.

He noted that the facility will bring hundreds of jobs to the region. It will also strengthen Texas’ position as a leader in innovation.

Governor Abbott described Gatik’s investment as a testament to Texas’ strong economic climate, robust infrastructure, and workforce.

Narang added that demand for autonomous Middle Mile delivery has surpassed expectations.

Rising costs, unreliable service levels, and a growing driver shortage continue to challenge traditional logistics networks. These factors have accelerated demand for Gatik’s autonomous technology.
